Most of you probably already know and love Sharon Shortridge. She has been with Angus Dentistry coming up on 23 years. Sharon attended Radford University for two years and then finished her education at the Medical College of Virginia (VCU). She has been working as a full-time hygienist since 1979.
Sharon loves her field of work because she gets the opportunity to really get to know patients. They really become, to her, more like family or a close friend. She says, “Every day you get to give a patient a fresh start with clean teeth and a healthy smile.”
Sharon has two children, Logan (31 years old) lives in Powhatan, VA, and works with ATS as a welding inspector. Her daughter Brooke (29 years old) lives in Anchorage, AK, and works at Alaska Mill and Feed as a marketing agent. The family loves to vacation at Crested Butte, Co, Sandbridge, and the Eastern Shore. They love to ski, bike, hike, run/walk, and just retreat to the beach. Sharon and her husband Doug live on six acres so there is always some type of yard work to keep them busy. Sharon says “who needs a gym?”
Sharon has seen many changes in dentistry since she started. Going from the polyester uniforms with a cap – to street clothes and lab jacket – then mandatory uniforms (scrubs). With the beginning of AIDS they added wearing gloves, masks, and glasses, and now – total coverage – jackets over uniforms, N95 masks, a face shield, hair coverage, and glasses.
"I’ve always taken pride in the dental field for going the extra mile to keep not only the patient but the staff safe. Angus Dentistry has done a fabulous job of this. I am very proud to be a member of the Angus Team." – Sharon Shortridge
